What’s the hardest part of using social media for your business or organisation? If you’re like most small business owners, coming up with content is at the top of your list.

Whether it’s finding the time to create content, or just figuring out what to post on social media on a day-to-day basis — it’s easy to let coming up with content ideas slow you down. Creating consistent and valuable content is no small feat. But as with many challenges, your best option could be to take things one day at a time.

As you get started, pay attention to what works well and what your audience seems to be most engaged with. The more you know about your online community, the easier it will be to create great content!

Here are some ideas to get you started

  1. Take a picture of your workspace, shop or location. Giving people a look behind the scenes allows them to get to know your business and build the trust you need to turn them into a customer.
  2. Cross-promote your other social media networks
  3. Show off your expertise with a helpful tip/fact
  4. Share behind-the-scenes images. Photos of your products being manufactured or sourced.
  5. Post a branded image: Post a funny or inspirational image with your logo or website URL on it.FullSizeRender 20.jpg
  6. Product photos: Work best on sites like Pinterest or Instagram. Think about how you can add a unique angle to the shots (e.g. an employee actually using the product, a customer-submitted photo, etc.).
  7. Fan/Customer photos: Search for hashtags related to your business or products, and share a customer photo on Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest.
  8. Recommend your favourite products: If you’re an e-commerce site, share a list of your top sellers or highest-rated products. If you’re a service provider, share a list of the products that help you succeed in your business.
  9. Share breaking industry news: Stay on stop of what’s going on in your industry or niche
  10. Share country-specific holidays: Wish your followers from around the world happy holidays.
  11. Customer testimonials.
  12. Host a contest/giveaway. There’s no better way to create engagement or a buzz around your brand than the promise of free products.
